Course Content and Structure

The training is described as "chock full of information," covering the following areas, as indicated by the Table of Contents and Course Expectations:

  • Teaching Methodology: Principles of Teaching, Key Teaching Concepts, How to See Your Students, How to Give a Verbal Assist, Demonstrations, and Teaching Online.

  • Cuing & Instruction: Principles of Cuing, Key Cuing Concepts, Introduction to Cuing, Universal Actions, Foundation, Advanced Paired Actions, Cuing the Breath, Cuing Transitions, and Cuing Root Rebound.

  • Sequencing: Principles of Sequencing, Key Sequencing Concepts, Overview of Sequencing, Peak Pose Sequencing, Class Structure, How to Plan Your Class Sequence, and Guidelines for Teaching Parts of Class.

  • Anatomy: Introduction to Integral Anatomy, Language of Anatomy, Anatomy of Bones & Joints, Connective Tissue, Muscle Tissue, and specific anatomy of the Hip, Shoulder, Breathing, Foot & Ankle, Knee, Arm & Hand, Spine, Core, Nervous System, Viscera, and Circulatory System.

  • Philosophy & Meditation: Meditation & Pranayama (including Vayus, Bandhas, Mudra, Kriya Techniques), History & Philosophy, Koshas, Chakras, Ayurveda, Models of the Human Experience, Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra, The Bhagavad Gita, and Ethics.

  • Professionalism & Ethics: School Policies, The Role of the Yoga Teacher, Relationships and Boundaries, Harassment and Sexual Misconduct, Scope of Practice, Equity and Inclusion in Yoga, Code of Conduct, Qualities of a Teacher, Your Teaching Mission, and Professional Development (including Marketing, Vision & Goals).

Evaluation and Feedback

Students will be evaluated to ensure they have the requisite skills and knowledge:

  • Teaching Practice: A Final Practicum and additional interim practicums for teaching feedback.

  • Breathwork: A Pranayama & Meditation Evaluation.

  • Sequencing Project: A Final Sequencing Assignment.

  • Knowledge Assessment: A Final Written Exam.

  • Participation: Studentship, which includes completion of quizzes, engagement, and professionalism.Welcome to the first ever—and certainly not the last—200 Hour Yoga Alliance Certified Yoga Teacher Training hosted by Yoga to You PDX. We are truly delighted to embark on this transformative journey with our upcoming students.

The training provides comprehensive instruction in yoga anatomy, covering:

  • Foundational Anatomy: Integral Anatomy, Language of Anatomy, Bones & Joints, Connective Tissue, and Muscle Tissue.

  • Specific Joint Biomechanics: Detailed anatomy of the Hip, Shoulder, Foot & Ankle, Knee, Arm & Hand, Spine, and Core.

  • Physiological & Applied Topics: Anatomy of Breathing, the Nervous System, the Viscera, the Circulatory System, Injuries, and an Introduction to Prenatal Yoga.
