"It was this time last year when I realized I needed to make a change in the new year when I stumbled upon an Instagram post for the Alameda Yoga Studio advertising a Six-Week Introductory Yoga class in a private studio. I had never done yoga before, always too intimidated. I was 56, overweight, have arthritis, needing a knee replacement... I made an inquiry and was reassured that they could help me. I signed up and it was the best thing I have ever done for myself! It has been close to a year now that I have been doing yoga and loving it. I have lost an additional 30 lbs, dropped 2 sizes, and my knee doesn’t hurt anymore. I am stronger, healthier, and more confident. Lauren, the owner, and Emma are amazing instructors who have worked with me, pushed me to better health and to achieve the wonderful calmness/relaxation that comes with each class. The personal attention is the best. This is what makes this yoga studio so special. Thank you!! I have taken a variety of classes the studio offers two times a week this year and will continue. I have loved all the classes. I’ve introduced friends to this studio and they love it too! I am so grateful for the caring support of these ladies and the other instructors. Don’t wait, sign up. Be the positive change you’ve been looking for!!"

"January of 2017 I fatefully stumbled upon a post on Next Door about an Intro to Yoga series. I had never practiced yoga, but I was intrigued. So, uncharacteristically I committed myself to a situation I knew nothing about. I was nervous and I showed up to my first class at the Alameda Yoga Studio flustered and late. I was tired, cranky and positive that this was in fact a bad idea. The instructor Emma welcomed me graciously and I enjoyed the next 60 minutes of pushing myself out of my comfort zone. I enjoyed learning something new, I enjoyed moving my body and I was excited to come back.
The energy and encouragement that both Emma and Lauren have given me in their instruction has been an integral part of my yoga journey. A fear I had starting yoga was getting hurt. The quality of instruction has been excellent, and I trust their guidance and knowledge. Lauren and Emma are gifted and hardworking healers. I am so grateful to them.
Yoga has humbled me and it has empowered me to be kinder to myself. My anxiety level is lower, I generally wake up feeling at ease in my body. Yoga has broadened my perspective on life and given me an amazing inner resource to navigate through the sticky parts. I am someone who is in my own head quite a bit, yoga has helped make that a more hospitable place. Yoga is also something I do for myself and as a working mother, this feels like taking a cool sip of water in the middle of the desert. Dramatic? Perhaps, but accurate just the same!
My typical new year resolution in the past has been to lose weight, to be more organized, or in general be something more or less of what I am or think I should be. This year my new year's intention is more joy... and more yoga.
